17th-century monk and amateur mathematician Marin Mersenne loved to write letters.
He was so devoted to the open exchange of information that he managed to piss off René Descartes by leaking some of the guy's controversial writings, which in turn pissed off the Church.
After Mersenne died, his room was found stacked with letters written by 78 different correspondents. The man had more pen pals than Tom from MySpace.
I don't think Descartes or the Catholic Church of France will mind if we indulge in a little information exchange. So send me your best worst joke, and I'll promise not to write "ROFL" unless I really am.
